Are you tired of shelling out tons of money on ebooks and other materials touting a variety of ways of increasing your internet business? I am not saying there is not valuable stuff available. However, one of the thing I have noticed is that there is a lot cheaper way of gaining many of these secrets. This particularly came to my mind with the today's release of Traffic Secrets 2.0 by John Reese. I have no idea how good this program is, other than the numerous recommendations that I have received in my inbox. However, it is my contention that you can unearth a lot of very valuable secrets on your own without having to pay for an expensive ebook or course. It might be a little more work, but you might also uncover a lot of additional secrets not disclosed to anyone else!

What is the secret? It is presence of mind. If you are like me, you spend a boatload of time everyday online. Many of you will be typical of the average internet user you will be trying to attract. Yet we just usually blindly click away without paying attention to what we are doing. Here is an exercise for you. For the next 24-48 hours focus on your own searching habits. Ask yourself the following questions: Why are you click on certain links? Was there a headline that grabbed you? What type of link was it? What type of page did it take you to? If you clicked on the link, there is a good chance that this marketed knows what he is doing. If you actually bought something on that site or clicked on one of his ads, you should even pay more attention to what he is doing. If you are really diligent, keep a digital record of the links you clicked on, the search terms, if applicable, you typed to get there, and bookmark the site you were taken to for further research.

If you have done this for a little bit, I am sure that all of the sudden your brain is popping with all sorts of traffic ideas, perhaps many of which might not have been mentioned in the last of the gurus' ebooks you have read. Please note that you can learn a lot more than traffic methods here. By reading through the ad sales copy and noting what precisely caught your attention and made you click, you can identify some great sales techniques. Think, "How can I use these techniques in my own offers?" You can also contrast the ads you liked and clicked on to those you did not. What did these other guys do wrong? Have I made these mistakes in the past? How can I avoid these mistakes in the future? These are all questions you should be asking to improve your own copywriting skills.

If it is a search engine ranking that caught your eye, you can do some additional due diligence. Since search engine optimization (SEO) is a complex topic and Google's algorithms are somewhat of a mystery, you will admittedly only get a partial answer as to how the site did so well. A tool such as SEO Elite will make this a lot easier; but, is not necessary. The easiest thing to look at is the inbound links at that particular search engine. Type "Links:" before the search term you used to find the site in the search box. This will be a list of the relevant backlinks in the search engine. These can give you some great ideas on how to get more varied backlinks to your own sites that actually matter to the search engines.

A recent ebook release actually was teaching the ability to get to the top of the affiliate rankings on new product launches. Now you could have either bought the product, or just examined the precise nature of the page and backlinks for the examples he used in his sales copy. Please do note, however, there is a caveat here. For sites that have been around a while, they might be using links that have been "grandfathered" in by the search engine from being penalized under the more current algorithms. Reciprocal linking campaigns are one such example, where if the same links were established later, they might not carry the same weight with the search engines.

Now certainly you are not going to learn every secret this way. I have to admit that I have learned a lot of things that I would have never thought of if I had just watched my own thoughts. Usually these relate to search engine algorithm particulars from those who have a massive amount of experience and typically charge a lot of money from their courses ($1000+). However, as it relates to a lot of internet marketing secrets I have found that much of that I could have learned, and in some cases have learned independently, from just watching my own surfing habits. Remember, usually gurus only release their secrets after having been using them for a while. If you are able to stumble across them before they are made public by watching your own thought processes, you are going to have a lot less competition for a period of time implementing that same strategy in your online business.
