In any marketing business, regardless of whether it is a small scale enterprise or a large business venture, the company needs to advertise in order to increase its customer base. One of the ways in order to advertise is through the internet. But having a web based company also brings with it the disadvantage of competing to millions of other web pages.

However, the internet is not a stagnant entity because it is in constant evolution. It causes changes in ways how advertisers market their web based company. And one of these methods of online advertisement is pay per click marketing. Through the years, it offers web based companies the opportunity to advertise their company in an affordable and proven method.

What is Pay per Click Marketing?

Pay per click or PPC marketing is an advertising model used on advertising networks, content blogs/websites and search engines where the marketer only pay when an internet user clicks on the ad in order to visit the website of the advertiser. In short, it functions exactly the way it sounds.

The advertiser will pay for the ad for it to be place in various content network websites or search engine result pages. In this process the advertiser bid for position in the search engine ranking. It is an advantage if your ad is place on the first page because you can target a lot of traffic to your website. But it always depend upon the advertiser's willingness to bid and budget availability.

And what's interesting is that even though your URL or website name is displayed on the search result page at the position you have bid, you are not charged of anything unless a user clicks on your ad and visit your site. That is why the position you strive for and the number of traffic you want to have is practically under your control.

The pay per click marketing ad is usually located in the outer margins of a content network page or search engine result page. It is composed of only a headline, a short description and a tracking link of your website, making it the most powerful in terms of traffic generation but the least in terms of targeted traffic.

Choose the best keywords

When using a pay per click marketing method, an advertiser must have an idea on what keyword to use in representing their company or business. The advertisers must also use keywords that consumers will use as search term in looking for a product or service. Then the advertiser will bid on those chosen keywords in which they will place their ads.

As you would expect, the more popular the keyword is the more costly it is. But it is an option worth taking because content web pages and search engines arrange these pay per click ads on their website in order by how much each promoter is paying per click. If you are on a high ranking position then it offer one remarkable advantage because traffic can be drawn very fast into your advertisement site.

Tips to consider

The advertisers must first take time in selecting business relevant keywords to bid on. They should brainstorm within their company the appropriate keywords in order not to waste the company's advertisement budget. After selecting the best keywords, you should make sure that the landing page where the ad is linked is relevant to the ad and it must be written well.

Another important thing to consider if you're going to engage in pay per click marketing is to watch out for click fraud. This occurs when an automatic script, a computer program or an individual purposely click on a pay per click ad to intentionally increase a company's advertising expenses. There are a lot of reasons why this occurs but commonly it is perpetrated by rival companies or business competitors in order to exhaust the advertising budget of the company. Fortunately, there are programs that advertisers use to detect and prevent click fraud. However, the most effective way to avoid this kind of scam is by advertising in reputable advertising website.
