Affiliate marketing programs are a great way and probably one of the quickest & easiest ways to start an online business and generate an income. This could be through your own website or the product owners own website. The more people that visit your website, the greater your chance will be of generating an online income.
Affiliate marketing is where a company offers to pay you a fixed amount for sending them customers to buy their product through whichever means of marketing you use, be it via your own website (banner displays), email marketing, blogging referrals, social media marketing, to mention but a few. The amount is usually represented as a percentage of the price and can range between 25% and 75%. Even if the customers you send don't make a purchase right away, virtually all the affiliate programs offer what is called a 'cookie duration', normally consisting of anything between a 30 to 90 day period. What this means for you, is that as long as the customers have the cookie in their cache on their computer when they decide to buy, you'll still get a commission from the sale within the 'cookie duration' period. The two elements of any affiliate marketing campaign that will take up the most amount of your time will be searching for and finding the right affiliate program with red hot in demand products and the right commission payout to promote, followed closely by your marketing method choice, even an email marketing campaign takes time to put together in the beginning, you don't want your email reported as spam by your list.
Affiliate program tracking can also be a problem; you need to know which of your affiliate marketing programs is giving you the most returns so that you can concentrate your efforts to build up your online income. Generally once you apply to become an affiliate for a marketer, they'll supply you with a personalised link (the code in this link will contain a unique user ID). It's very important that you copy this code correctly (usually by copying and pasting into a word doc for saving on your hard drive) and then apply it correctly to any marketing you do or you could be sending customers to the marketer without getting any commission.
