Nowadays many people build their websites with a main focus of getting a sale. But this allows only for one contact with a potential buyer. The better method is to acquire as much contact with a potential customer as possible by email correspondence. A way to collect more email addresses for potential customers is by creating a name squeeze page.

A name squeeze page, commonly called a squeeze page for short, is a vital weapon in the arsenal of anyone doing internet marketing. It is used to generate leads for a opt-in list which is an email list of persons you plan to send commercial emails. There are other ways to collect visitor information without their knowledge but it is unethical. Also, if you send email to people without then requesting it, you will be labelled as spamming which is illegal. So the best way to build your list legitimately is by utilizing a squeeze page.

Creating a squeeze page is not difficult to do. The two major factors which determines the effectiveness of a squeeze webpage are:

1. How compelling the copy on the webpage is and

2. The offer that is given as an incentive for opting in.

The offer must be something the visitor will find useful to them whether it be a free ebook or report. In order to make the copy compelling you have to concentrate on the headline and body copy of the webpage. Does the offer satisfy some basic need of visitors in your niche? You have to make the offer ease some pain or cause the reader to gain pleasure in some way. You have to make the offer so good it pricks up the ears of a potential subscriber and has them drooling to get their hands on it.

One way to make the copy more compelling is to include audio or video on the webpage. Don't be afraid to use your own voice or face. This adds a personal touch to the offer and from there you might be able to add something about yourself. People love to hear stories. If you feel uncomfortable in the role of providing a face to your offer use a professional or expert in your field. Include a call to action within the message so that the person knows what to do to receive your opt-in offer.

After you've figured out what to offer and how to present it, you then need to include a bit of code on your webpage that accepts email addresses. Your autoresponder service should provide these HTML codes. The service ideally should facilitate a double opt-in of subscribers. This reduces the risk of persons accusing you of spamming.

The next thing you should do is create two pages, one for a confirmation message and one for a thank you message. After the new subscriber opts-in you should lead them to a page which asks them to check their email for a confirmation message with a link within it which they must click before they receive their first message. On this page also include instructions on how they must whitelist your email address so they always receive your messages and so that their email filter doesn't treat your messages as spam. After they've clicked the link within the confirmation email they should be taken to a page where you thank them for subscribing to your list. The free offer which you promised should either be available in the first message from the autoresponder or on the thank you page.

Now that you have subscribers to an email list you can send them further information, tips and offers which is related to the first offer they opted-in for. Don't overdo it though. Some people might become annoyed with a barrage of commercial emails everyday. Try to space out your correspondence to regular intervals say twice a week. Also, seek to build a relationship with your list by providing useful information at regular intervals and not just offers to buy things. Do it the wrong way and you might end up with disinterested subscribers and person's opting-out. Do it the right way and that initial small squeeze page may mark the beginning of an internet marketing empire.
